Can you put polished concrete over floorboards?
If your floorboards are extremely well bonded to the underlying surface, it is sometimes possible to have a 3mm micro-topping hand trowelled over the floorboards. However, we always recommend removing the current flooring to expose solid concrete that we can polish. Polishing the solid concrete underneath is actually longer-lasting and a lot more durable. We are also sometimes asked if we can put polished concrete over tiles. Because we don’t actually lay concrete ourselves, we can’t really advise on having a topping slab poured over floorboards, so that’s definitely a question for your concreter or builder instead. We do know that polished concrete can be put over tiles, but we don’t highly recommend it. If you have more questions, please see
