Can I steam mop my polished concrete?
We strongly discourage anyone from steam mopping polished concrete. This is because steam pushes into the tiny pores in the floor under pressure, but these pores have been closed by grout to ensure a seamless floor. By keeping the pores in the floor closed, grout helps ensure that the floor does not harbour dust mites, mould spores, breathing irritants or other debris. But if you use a steam mop, the steam will push out the grout from those pores and as a result, you will lose the premiere hygienic quality of your polished concrete. To preserve the properties of polished concrete that make it such a worthwhile investment, it’s best not to use a steam mop, and it is also very important to avoid harsh chemicals such as bleach, vinegar or citrus products or oils. The good news is, there’s really no need to use a steam mop for a polished concrete floor anyway, because there is no grout, ridges or grooves to worry about on the surface. Polished concrete is actually very easy to clean with just a light weight microfibre mop and some hot water!
